Launch Remote is intended to launch an application on a remote Macintosh. Provided you can mount the hard drive(s) of the remote machine and you have linking privileges — you can make it work. You can’t have the remote machine launch an application on your machine. THE APPLICATION MUST BE ON THE REMOTE MACHINE. If you have write privileges to the remote volume, however, you can drag an application over there and launch it.

System 7.0 Finder or later.
You must enable Program Linking both on the remote machine and on your machine. This is done in the Sharing Setup control panel. You will also need to give yourself linking privileges on the remote machine. This is done by opening your user file under the Users & Groups control panel and selecting “Allow user to link to programs on this Macintosh.” Each user that needs to launch applications must have linking privileges enabled. You will also need to enable file sharing on the remote machine and give yourself access rights. If you want to experiment on your own machine, you must enable file sharing on your machine.

With Launch Remote running, select the menu command — Send Launch.
You will see a window that asks you to “select application to launch on remote machine.” Hit OK and then you will be given a standard file dialog. Select the application and hit OK.
Next you will be asked to “Select Finder On A Remote Macintosh” and will be presented with a window. Select the target machine from the list on the left and select Finder from the list on the right. Next hit OK. THE APPLICATION MUST BE LOCATED ON THE TARGET MACHINE. If you don’t select the correct machine, you will be told so. The error checking is based on machine names so it is possible for this feature to fail if both machines share the same name.
Now you will be asked to authorize your linking connection (this is the same dialog you get when you log onto a server). If you pass the authorization, the command will be sent to the remote machine. I haven’t built in a way to see if the application launched or not. If this is important to you, there is a program posted at info-mac which can provide you with that info. The program is called “About That Mac” and it can be found in the cfg directory.
